The artwork of local seniors is showcased each year at the Area Agency on Aging District 7’s (AAA7) Annual Senior Citizens Art Show that is typically held at the Esther Allen Greer Museum, located on the campus of the University of Rio Grande in Rio Grande, Ohio, during May and June.
Ohio residents age 55 or older, who enter artwork in the Show, have their items on display at the Museum where the public is invited to visit, view and vote for the Show’s People’s Choice Award. In addition, a special Tea is conducted at the close of the Art Show to recognize the participants and award-winning art pieces.
Examples of art categories that are usually entered in the Contest include acrylic, charcoal, counted cross stitch, mixed media, oil, pastels, pencil, and photography. Judging themes include abstract, animals and birds, cartoons, floral, landscape, portraits (humans), seascape, and still life. In addition, an essay/poetry category is available with these entries included as part of the display at the Museum.
Dates for the 2016 Art Show are May 23-27 and May 31-June 3. More information about deadlines for artwork and written submissions can be viewed in the "2016 Art Show Application" link below.
